Specialist servicing
Land Rover maintenance based on the vehicle, not a generic checklist
AJ 4X4 provides independent Land Rover servicing from our workshop in Liphook. We work on vehicles across the Land Rover range, including Defender, Discovery, Freelander and modern Range Rover-derived models, and tailor the service to the exact model, engine, age, mileage and previous maintenance history.
There is no single service interval that is correct for every Land Rover. The correct schedule varies between models and can also change according to towing, short journeys, off-road use and annual mileage. We check the manufacturer schedule and the vehicle condition before recommending the work that is actually due.
Before carrying out additional repairs, we explain what we have found and obtain approval. That gives owners a clear distinction between routine service items, work that should be planned and faults that need immediate attention.
What is checked
What a Land Rover service can include
The work depends on the service schedule and the condition of the vehicle. Typical service items and inspections include:
- Engine oil and oil filter replacement using the correct specification lubricant.
- Air, fuel and cabin filter replacement where due.
- Brake pad, disc, tyre and wheel condition checks.
- Cooling system, fluid levels, visible leaks, belts and hoses.
- Steering, suspension, bushes, wheel bearings and underbody inspection.
- Diagnostic scan and investigation of warning messages where required.
- Driveline, transfer box and differential checks on applicable models.
- Service indicator reset and maintenance record update where the vehicle supports it.
We can use genuine Land Rover parts or suitable OEM-quality alternatives, depending on the vehicle and the owner's preference. The important point is that the parts, fluids and procedures are appropriate for the model.
Service planning
When should a Land Rover be serviced?
Follow the service schedule for the exact model rather than relying on a blanket mileage figure. A vehicle used for repeated short journeys, towing, heavy loads, winter roads or off-road work may need attention earlier than one covering gentle motorway mileage.

Signs that a service or inspection is due
- Service reminder or maintenance message on the dashboard.
- Reduced fuel economy, rough running or a change in performance.
- Brake noise, vibration, pulling or increased stopping distance.
- Fluid marks beneath the vehicle or repeated coolant top-ups.
- Suspension knocks, steering play or uneven tyre wear.
- No reliable record of the last service.
Our workshop is in Liphook, convenient for owners travelling from Haslemere, Farnham, Petersfield and surrounding parts of Hampshire, Surrey and West Sussex.
Land Rover servicing FAQs
Can you service an older Defender or Discovery?
Yes. We service older mechanical Land Rovers as well as current models. The inspection is adjusted to the age and known wear points of the vehicle.
Will you carry out repairs without approval?
No. We report additional findings and agree the scope before proceeding, except for minor consumables already included in an agreed service.
Do you also repair faults found during servicing?
Yes. AJ 4X4 undertakes diagnostics and mechanical repairs, including brakes, suspension, cooling, electrical and driveline work. See our Land Rover repairs page.
