Defender repairs

Practical repairs for working vehicles, daily drivers and projects

AJ 4X4 repairs classic Defender 90, 110 and 130 vehicles and current Defender models from our Liphook workshop. The repair approach depends on the generation: older Defenders are often affected by corrosion, mechanical wear and previous modifications, while newer vehicles rely more heavily on electronic control and diagnostic testing.

We assess the actual condition of the vehicle, explain the likely cause and agree the repair scope before substantial work begins. Where a vehicle has several issues, we can help prioritise safety, reliability and longer-term project work.

Classic Defender work

Common repairs on older Defenders

  • Chassis and crossmember corrosion assessment and repair.
  • Clutch, gearbox, transfer box and driveline faults.
  • Oil and coolant leaks, overheating and cooling system repairs.
  • Steering, suspension, wheel bearing and swivel housing work.
  • Brake system repairs and seized or worn components.
  • Starting, charging, lighting and wiring faults.
  • Engine performance, turbocharger and fuel-system investigation.

Older vehicles may have previous repairs or modifications that affect the diagnosis. We take those into account rather than assuming the vehicle remains in original specification.

Repairing or improving a Defender?

We can separate urgent mechanical work from planned chassis, driveline and project improvements.

Current Defender

Diagnostics and repairs for newer Defender models

Current Defenders can present suspension, electrical, cooling, braking and drivetrain concerns that require structured testing. We use the symptoms, vehicle data and physical checks together rather than treating a fault code as a complete diagnosis.

Defender repair FAQs

Can you inspect chassis corrosion?

Yes. We assess visible corrosion and can advise whether local repair, wider chassis work or further strip-down is appropriate.

Can you diagnose intermittent faults on a new Defender?

Yes, although intermittent issues may require additional test time and a clear description of when the problem occurs.

Do you service Defenders too?

Yes. See Defender servicing for routine maintenance.
