Find the cause before replacing parts
AJ 4X4 carries out Land Rover diagnostics and repairs from our workshop in Liphook. We deal with straightforward mechanical work and more involved faults across Defender, Discovery, Freelander and Range Rover-derived vehicles.
A warning light or symptom does not always identify the failed component. We start with the information from the driver, inspect the vehicle and use diagnostic data where appropriate. The objective is to identify the underlying fault rather than replace parts based only on a stored code.
Once the problem has been assessed, we explain the findings, the repair options and any related work that should be considered. No substantial additional work is carried out without approval.

Common Land Rover faults we investigate
- Engine management lights, starting problems and poor running.
- Cooling system leaks, overheating and repeated coolant loss.
- Brake wear, seized components, vibration and warning messages.
- Steering and suspension knocks, worn bushes and wheel bearing noise.
- Electrical faults, battery drain, sensors and intermittent warning lights.

The exact repair route depends on the model and test results. A modern Discovery with an electronic fault needs a different process from a classic Defender with mechanical wear or corrosion, so the page is not built around one generic list of replacements.
How we work
A clear repair process
- Initial assessment: we record the symptoms, warning messages and circumstances in which the fault occurs.
- Inspection and testing: visual checks, road testing and diagnostic investigation are carried out as appropriate.
- Findings and approval: we explain the likely cause, repair scope and cost before major work begins.
- Repair and verification: the agreed work is completed and the vehicle is checked to confirm that the original concern has been addressed.
Where a fault requires staged investigation, we say so. This is more honest than promising a fixed answer before the vehicle has been tested.

Can you diagnose intermittent warning lights?
Yes, although intermittent faults can require more than a quick code scan. Details about when the warning appears, weather conditions and recent work can help narrow the investigation.
Do you work on classic and current Land Rovers?
Yes. AJ 4X4 supports older Defender and Discovery models as well as newer vehicles with more complex electronic systems.
Can repairs be combined with servicing?
Yes. Where practical, servicing and approved repair work can be completed during the same workshop visit. See Land Rover servicing.
