Defender specialists

Different Defenders require different maintenance

AJ 4X4 services classic Defender 90, 110 and 130 vehicles as well as the current Defender range from our workshop in Liphook. Older Defenders need close attention to chassis condition, driveline lubrication, leaks and age-related wear. Newer models require accurate service identification, correct fluids and diagnostic checks.

We therefore do not apply one fixed service package to every Defender. The work is based on model, engine, age, mileage, use and service history. A working Defender used for towing or off-road duties may need different attention from a low-mileage vehicle used mainly on the road.

Classic Defender

Servicing older Defender 90, 110 and 130 models

A service on an older Defender can include much more than engine oil and filters. Depending on the model and schedule, we inspect:

  • Chassis, outriggers, crossmember and visible corrosion.
  • Engine, gearbox, transfer box, axle and swivel oil leaks.
  • Propshafts, universal joints and lubrication points where applicable.
  • Steering joints, suspension bushes, wheel bearings and brakes.
  • Cooling system, belts, hoses and fluid condition.
  • Clutch operation, gearbox selection and driveline backlash.
  • Electrical condition, lighting and starting performance.

Findings are separated into immediate safety work, maintenance that should be planned and cosmetic or long-term project items.

New Defender

Servicing the current Defender range

Current Defender models require the correct maintenance schedule, approved fluid specifications and checks of the vehicle's electronic systems. We inspect brakes, tyres, suspension, cooling, battery condition and stored faults alongside the scheduled service items.

When should a Defender be serviced?

Use the schedule for the exact vehicle. Time, mileage and operating conditions all matter, particularly where the Defender is used for towing, short journeys, commercial work or off-road driving.
